Should Paul McErney's 6 year old Gelding ANGEL ON FIRE get into this contest from the substitutes bench (1st Reserve) then I feel like this charge could be in the mix, This Son of DARK ANGEL wouldn't be put off by the rain here today in County Kerry & could benefit from dropping back to 8f (from 11f) after a 4th place (2 lengths) @Sligo 9 days ago & has win/place form on testing ground. Trainer has a 100% place strike rate here the past year with 5lb claiming Jockey Cian MacRedmond who has win/place form (1 win/1 place from 5 runs) with this charge retaining the reigns.

In a contest full of uncertainty (Handicap debuts/ Turf debuts) I'm happy to side with Eddie & Patrick Harty's 3 year old Colt APOLLO PRINCE who gets into this contest off 1st Reserve & would be one of the few here that have ran well in testing conditions & with more forecast Rain to fall from the County Kerry Sky it certainly doesn't look like it would bother this Son of KODIAK who would certainly be entitled to strip fitter for his 4th 3¾ finish @Naas (7f Heavy) which came off a 146 day break, The return to a sharp track could bring further improvement from two good runs @Galway (the first being a 2nd place finish keeping on (7f) in much deeper company Yielding/Soft) aswell as the bump up to 8f. The Yard is going well this past month with a 16.67% Win 41.67% Place strike rate. I've certainly seen much worse 16/1 shots.

Thomas Cooper's 6 year old French Gelding GARRYBELLO's recent hurdle/chase form line fails to flatter but you don't have to look to hard to see that this Son of BALLINGARRY's better form comes on a sharper track on better ground ( His recent All Weather runs also help give this theory some merit) so I'm happy to pass over this lads last run (also after a 134 day break) which looked a little too short on a track he hasn't taken to (galloping/undulating). So let's dig into this lads form on Sharper tracks: Cork £23k Race 19f 3½ OR 123, Killarney £9k Race 2½ lengths OR 122, Killarney (Chase) was in touch with leaders when falling 4 out, Listowel £12k Race 7¾ (soft) OR 123. This French Lad now drops another 1lb , Should Strip fitter & returns back to a sharp track. Jockey Michael O'Sullivan takes the reigns & has a 37.50% place strike rate here @Killarney the past year. Hitting the Frame here certainly wouldn't be a forlorn hope here.

Jessica Harrington's 4 year old Gelding POLAR BEAR has become more of a 'Bug Bear' of mine the past few times I've tipped him. This Son of KODI BEAR continues to slide down the handicap dropping another 2lbs (to 75) & is now 7lbs lighter for his last win, this step up to a trip to 7f wouldn't look an obvious choice but this charge did finish well @Naas 14 days ago & now drops in Class back at a sharp track (His last win came over another sharp track - Bellewstown). The Majority of this charges 'better' form has come on faster ground & although it's due to rain here @Roscommon I don't think it will get heavy. The ever reliable jockey Shane Foley pilots (jockey has overseen ALL of this lads best form) & could guide this well weighted lad into a podium finish should he kick on from this 'unknown' trip.

Ian Donoghue's 4 year old Filly VIKKI WALL certainly didn't shame herself 8 days ago @Sligo (6f Yielding/Soft) reappearing after a 198 day break where she was keeping on in the closing stages but was found wanting for room. This Daughter of TAMAYUZ Has the pedigree in her veins to step up in trip & if her last run is anything to go by then the expected rain here @Roscommon shouldn't hinder. A few questions marks here (primarily the step up 2f) but dropping 1lbs for the Sligo run & now dropped another 5lbs thanks to the booking of Jockey James Ryan for a yard currently in fine fettle (28.57% Win / 57.14% place strike rate this past month) I'm more than happy to play each way.

With 5 places on offer at Current 33/1 odds for Nadine Verheyen's 4 year old Irish Gelding INVERINATE I'm happy to side with this Son of KODIAK who seems to be getting the hang of things here in France after moving across the pond from UK based trainer Ismail Mohammed, This former 7f Uk winner ran his best race to date 13 days ago @Chantilly (8f Soft) just 2¼ lengths off the winner where he just looked to run out of steam in the dying embers. Now dropped back 1f & shed 2lbs Jockey Hugo Besnier remains in the plate & has a change of getting this charge in with a shout at some prize money.

Mrs John Harrington's 4 year old Colt SATURN looks of real interest here as he returns back to the turf, This Son of GALILEO's last run over the turf came here @Leopardstown on ground that was a little too sticky for him (Although he still finished 3rd 3¼ off the winner). Jockey Shane Foley returns to pilot & has a decent record here @Leopardstown the past year with a 39.96 place strike rate. Very interesting runner here that has racing royalty running through his veins.

Eoin McCarthy's 7 year old Mare ALL ABOUT LUCY looks potentially well treated here, This Daughter of FAME AND GLORY should strip fitter here run 22 days ago @Ballinrobe where she finished 3rd on conditions that certainly wouldn't have been her cup of tea (Bit far & too much juice in the turf). This charge won a maiden here last April (19f Yielding) with all of her better form coming at tracks of this nature (Here, Wexford & Ballinrobe) & is now dropped 2lbs for her seasonal reappearance with another 5lbs shaved off thanks to Jockey Gary Noonan's claim who been running ok the past month (29.41% place strike rate with a 26.32% place strike rate here @Cork the past year). Trainers Record here @Cork isn't too shabby with a 26.67% place strike rate the past year. 5 places on offer here & hitting the frame now fresher on better ground wouldn't be a forlorn hope.

I'm willing to give Patrice Dolle's 6 year old French Gelding AFGHANY the benefit of the doubt now that he returns back to the All weather surface here today @Chantilly, This Son of THE GURKHA was only 1¾ off the winner on his penultimate All Weather run (Here @Chantilly) under todays pilot; 3lb claimer Coralie Pacaut. At decent odds currently at 18/1 I'm happy to play each way with 4 places on offer for a change of surface (and hopefully fortunes) & can hopefully see us hit the crossbar.

I'm going to take a flyer on Natalia Lupini's 3 year old Filly NIKKI SWANGO here on Handicap Debut. This Daughter of GALILEO GOLD has some decent 2 year old form on her resume with a decent level maiden win on the All Weather prior to this was a decent enough run in Class 2 company @The Curragh (trainer has since come out & said it stretched her & showers before the race scuppered her chances). 218 days off is nothing to shrug off but trainer knows how to get one ready from such a layoff with a 43.33% place strike rate when doing so aswell as a very impressive 37.50% Win strike rate with her handicap debutants. The booking of Jockey Wayne Hassett is another positive who is very good value for his 7lb claim & currently finds himself in fine fettle with a 23.33% win 56.57% place strike rate the past month. Lots of positives here 'Should' this charge be ready to fire at the first time of asking after a break.

I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm struggling to see a reason why Eamonn Sheehy's 9 year old Gelding ARDAGHS CHOICE is currently trading at 20/1, This Son of ARCADIO would have certainly needed the pipe opener 17 days ago @Tipperary after a gargantuan 577 day break despite this he still managed to finish in mid division on ground he certainly doesn't relish. This charge has a 8½ length hurdle win & 2nd place chase run here in Northern Ireland & is now 1lb lower than his last victory @Wexford (Another sharp track) & now gets the services of the very talented jockey Carl Millar who's very good value for his 7lb claim & has a 50% place strike rate here @Downpatrick the past year. Dropped 3lbs with 4 places on offer I'm more than happy to play each way at the current price.

I tipped up Mark McNiff's 8 year old Mare ROSSIES TARA 16 days ago @Bellewstown (20f Good/Yielding) where she ran well coming off a 180 day layoff to land some prize money in 4th, This Daughter of KAYF TARA is now dropped in weight (1lb) to a career low mark of 79 & drops back 2f to 18f which has seen this maiden come closest (2nd 1½ @Sligo OR 81) at another sharp track. Jockey Phillip Enright remains in the plate & was in the winners enclosure yesterday (@Tipperary) & has a 30% place strike rate here the past 5 years, Trainer has a 40% place strike rate here @Downpatrick the past 5 years. 4 places on offer for this charge who runs off bottom weight again now on a career low mark.

At current 33/1 odds Shelia lavery's 4 year old Gelding TORIVEGA looks worth a second glance (in my humble opinion). A bit of faith is needed with regards to this Son of LOPE DE VEGA's fitness as he arrives here in Mallow coming off a 251 day absence freshly Gelded prior to this is a win here @Cork 6f 1½ keeping on nicely. This charge's last run in Ireland before that was in Grade 3 company @Naas keeping on just 4¼ lengths off the winner THE ANTARCTIC with 2 runs in France in much deeper company aswell on his résumé. Now 3lbs lighter for that lady victory with Jockey Robbie Colgan returning who's been running well without winning with a 41.67% place strike rate the past month. 5 places on offer at good value odds should this charge be ready to go at first time of asking freshly gelded.

What's that old saying "There's more than one way to skin a cat!" Which is very true but when I look at races like this I need to know if my selection can 'Get up that Hill!' wether it be here in County Kilkenny or the other undulating/ Galloping uphill stamina sappers (Down Royal / Clonmel) there are a few obvious qualifiers here but I'm looking for a 'price' which brings me to Willie McCreery's 3 year old Filly AU LAIT who certainly would have been entitled to her run 10 days ago @Naas (after a 197 day absence), This daughter of FAST COMPANY has raced in much deeper races as a 2 year old including a run here where despite running a little green still finished 4th. The Reappearance of Jockey Billy Lee is an obvious positive who can currently do no wrong with a 25.93% Win strike rate the past fortnight. A very good price of 16/1 here for a charge who's pedigree says she can take a step forward here.

The top end of the market is too short for me so in the search of Potential value Michael Mulvany's 3 year old Gelding BUTTER FINGERS pricks my intrigue, Firstly Trainer has a decent strike rate with his runners here @Gowran Park clocking in 21.43% the past year. This Son of TOUGH AS NAILS certainly won't be offput by the juice filled turf & this Sires progeny have ran well here in County Kilkenny in the past (This Charges Brother ROUGH AND TOUGH has won twice here aswell). This Grey enters handicap company top of the weights here which again sets of my spider senses, why?? He's not shown much at all so far in Maiden Contests, Jockey Sean Birds 7lb claim helps to keep this lad honest and at current 14/1 odds (with 4 places on offer) I'm happy to side with this charge who's pedigree & shrewd trainers record here have me siding tentatively each way.

I'm not going to sit here & tell you that George Stanley's 6 year old Gelding MONTY'S WAY was going to win here @Ballinrobe 18 days ago before falling 2 from home but he looked to be in an OK position & certainly had a punchers chance before departing. This Son of FASTNET ROCK only has the one win on his résumé which was a maiden contest over this trip @Killarney (another sharp track) but now running with another 2lbs shaved off thanks in part to Jockey Conor Owens could give this charge at least a shout to hit the frame in a contest that doesn't look very deep. Should this charge be ok for last time outs tumble then 5 places on offer at 50/1 looks too tempting to pass up.

Trainer Paul Flynn currently has his yard in Fine Fettle & it's his 3 year old Gelding RAPPELL that has me intrigued here on his Handicap Bow. This Son of SOLDIERS CALL drops in class & to a trip that his pedigree suggests will suit. This charge is actually running 2lbs out of the handicap but jockey Wayne Hassett's 7lb claim keeps him honest. Both Trainer & Jockey are cooking on gas with Trainer (33% win strike rate the past fortnight) & Jockey (25% Win 66.67% place strike the past month) looking to continue their good run. Bottom weighted here with a top claimer booked to pilot. At huge 40/1 I'm happy to side with this yard (you wouldn't want to back against them currently)

Very good odds here for Ross O'Sullivan's French 9 year old Gelding FAVORI LOGIQUE who 'Should' appreciated this dried out ground here @Down Royal. This Son of DENHAM RED ran very well on his penultimate @Leopardstown 2 furlongs further (28f) to finish 3rd on ground he wouldn't have been thrilled with, Now dropped back in trip & down 1lb with 7lb claimer Tom Harney Back in the Saddle. Trainer has a 42.86% place strike rate with his Marathon Runners.

I had David Harvey's 6 year old Mare BALLERINA BOXER jotted in my notebook after an improved run on Handicap debut on her penultimate run @Naas (16f Soft/Heavy) where she was keeping on at the finish, upped in trip next time out she was brought down at the 6th. I'm keen to see how this Daughter of SHIROCCO fares on better ground with 7lb claiming jockey Alex Harvey in the plate, It should be noted that jockey has a 66.67% place rate here the past year & a 42.58% place strike rate here the past 5 years. Hood is tried for the first time & with 5 places on offer I'm happy to see if we can kick on from her penultimate run.

18/1 is too big for me to ignore Mark McNiff's 4 year old Filly KAMI, Yes she's finished dead last twice but has 2 valid reasons (In my Humble opinion) for those, last time outs run @The Curragh looked too deep & came after a 235 day abscence & her penultimate again too deep on fast ground didn't do This Daughter of MARKAZ any favours. This Charges 2 best runs have come here at her local track with her last a win 2lbs lighter coming from way off the pace despite a bad start (which she does quite a lot which isnt ideal) to beat the favourite here today (Redshore City). Jockey Gavin Ryan remains in the saddle & has a 66.67% Win strike here @Sligo the past year. 4 places on offer here for a charge who seems to prefer it here @Sligo.

I like the look of Brad Cox's Colt JUST A TOUCH who seems to be a charge on the up & can (in my humble opinion) pose a serious threat to the 'Marmite' like Favourite FIERCENESS who when turns up he's phenomenal but can (& has) blown hot & cold. Current 12/1 seems very fair for this Son of JUSTIFY (who also didn't run as a two year old) who's run in the Bluegrass stakes @Keenland was impressive plugging away in 2nd & remember this is only his THIRD race. Jockey Florent Geroux remains in the plate & should lead this charge up with the pace. The pedigree suggests he go further & I'm more than happy to fire each way here for a selection with plenty of potential upside here at double figured odds.

I've been trying to find reasons to move off Sean Doyle's 7 year old Gelding MONBEG PARK but I really can't, This Son of WALK IN THE PARK returns back to a sphere where he left comfortably beat SPILLANE'S TOWER in his last run here @Punchestown prior to this was a chalked off win at this Level @Fairyhouse last April. This charges 3 runs over the taller timber haven't gone to plan but that happens when you come up against juggernauts the like of IL ETIAT TEMPS & MARINE NATIONALE so happy to overlook those runs. Back over hurdles gives this lad a fighting chance if returning back to the form he showed back in this Discipline last year at a course he has a 100% strike rate at. Jockey JJ Slevin remains in the plate (was on board for that victory over SPILLANE TOWER).

Despite running out of the Handicap here I'm intrigued to see what happens here with John Ryan's very lightly ridden 10 year old Gelding DONACHEADY GALE who seems like a new horse after a 863 day absence has resulted in this Son of KALANISI In hitting the frame 3 from 3 over the Tall timber with his run 15 days ago In Grade 3 company @Limerick (25f) ¼ behind a top charge in Gordan Elliott's FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU being the most significant of the 3 runs. Trainer John Ryan has come out publicly stating "This is probably the best horse in the yard or one of them anyway". Jockey Daniel King retakes the reigns & has a 100% place strike rate with this old boy. Ground won't be a problem. This charge will have to take a another forward step but I'm happy to side each way here.

Barry Connell's 7 year old French Gelding HGRANCA DE THAIX Finally notched up a win over the tall timber 40 days ago @Limerick after coming up short (Literally!!) in his recent previous attempts (was running over 16/17f but had winning form over 20f) but possibly more important than that win was finding out how much more potential this charge has, which could be lots more after watching Henry De Bromhead's charge LETS GO CHAMP (who finished 3rd in that Limerick run) win nicely on Wednesday In a much deeper contest off a mark of 131 (our selections new OR). Any of the reported potential rain certainly would be appreciated but this Son of SADDLER MAKER does have some better ground form in his résumé. Interesting is Trainer Barry Connell's record when running a LTO winner a very impressive 34.48% Win strike rate, Jockey Michael O'Sullivan has piloted all of this French lads best form & retains the reins. Very interesting runner at a decent price.

Felice Jacob's 5 year old French Gelding ILLUMINATING 'Should' Strip fitter for his 3rd (2½ lengths) @Le Croisé-Laroche 13 days ago (5½f) after a 175 days break. This Son of HUNTERS LIGHT arrives here well treated & is 10lbs lighter for his last run here @Fontainebleau & his lowest weight at this level. Jockey Jerome Moutard remains on pilot duties for his good run last time out. 3lbs lighter (from last run) & up to 6f with 4 places on offer gives this charge a good chance to trouble the main protagonists if that pipe opener has done the trick.

Yann Barberot's 4 year old French Colt QUARTZ DU HOULEY would have needed the pipe opener 18 days ago on the Turf @Longchamp whilst returning from a 124 day absence 'if' Stripped fitter now then this Son of BRAMETOT could get himself in the frame back on the All Weather surface which has seen him not far away from the placings in his last two All weather runs at this level prior to this was a win & 4th on the turf both In this company. This charge drops 6lbs & arrives lighter than both his previous All Weather Runs. Jockey Anthony Crastus takes the reins & has 1 Win/2 places (from 3 runs) for Trainer this past fortnight. Now well weighted certainly not a forlorn hope to rattle the crossbar.

Con O' Keefe's French 5 year old Mare KILBARRY SAINT Could be a future Black type selection that is yet to be seen but I can only go on what I've seen which is two back to back good runs, Beating a subsequent winner by 6 lengths @Clonmel then jumped massively up to Grade 2 company last month outrunning her massive 80/1 odds to finish 2nd @Fairyhouse. This Daughter of SAINT DES SAINTS has the pedigree to run on this faster ground. This Jockey (Danny Gilligan) trainer combination is still in its infancy but its yielded 1 win 2 places (from 3 runs) the past year. This charge could be on the up as she drops in class here today & could hit the frame here at Decent odds.

My intrigue can't let me pass up Vincent Halley's 6 year old Gelding SENECIA whilst his recent formline fails to flatter it would seem he's been run on the wrong going throughout the winter, Being a Son of ASK would tell you he wouldnt want all that juice in the ground. If we roll back the seasons & go back to the Spring where he got the ground his DNA wanted he performed well Winning @Ballinrobe beating a good charge HERCULE DE SUIEL 1¼ lengths & wasn't far behind WATCH HOUSE CROSS on the follow up @Wexford & also ran Well in Grade 3 company in October here @Punchestown losing by a Neck in a race that had PATH D'OROUX 18 Lengths behind. There is simply too much here for me totally write off at 50/1 for an Interesting Charge getting the conditions it seems like he wants.

Peter Fahey's 6 year old Gelding SIGN FROM ABOVE 'Should' appreciate this better going after failing to make an impact this term on Heavy when returning from a break. This Son of SEA THE STARS ran well on ground he wouldn't have been in love with (Heavy) in Class 2 company @Chepstow on his antepenultimate run & NOW arrives here 9lbs lighter. Jockey Sam Ewing is booked & decent place strike rate here the past 5 Years with a 24.32% whilst trainer Peter Fahey has a similar record with a 28.57% place strike rate. Big odds here with 6 places for a Charge that 'should' sail more smoothly over better ground.

Joeri Goossens 5 year old French Filly ROMANTIC ROSE has failed to kick on from some good performances in much deeper waters last year Including a 2nd (by a Neck) here @Chantilly (AW £17k race) then followed up again on the AW in a £26K race (1¾ off the winner), This Daughter of NATHANIEL didn't disgrace herself in Quinte+ company @Fontainebleau (4 lengths £33k Good ground) in September so why such big odds? This charge seems to struggle when returning from a break the results don't lie; two breaks two last place finishes but this charges run 33 days ago showed some glimpses, She was certainly entitled to strip fitter for a break & rallied late on to finish strong in a blanket finish not too far off the prize money. If this charge can pick up where she left off last year she looks very dangerous now potentially tuned up.

Gordan Elliott's 7 year old Gelding THE GOFFER was running well 18 days in The Grand national but faded out come the business end of the mammoth trip. This Son of YEATS now drops 4lb bringing him to a very competitive mark of 143. This charge has equitted himself well in a Plethora of big festival races & whilst he's never embarrassed himself he just seems stretched (in my humble opinion) so the drop back to this distance range (20f-22) in which all his conquests have come should be welcomed. Top Jockey Jack Kennedy is rebooked & is gunning for the Jockey Championship. It's been a while since we've had a drop in Mark this low for this lad who's been in plenty of big battles & I'm not so sure why it's taken this long to drop him to this distance either way 5 places up for grabs looks good enough for me.

It's been a while since William Walton's 6 year old French Filly AZUR AS WELL has ran over her Preferred 7f, This Daughter of PENNYS PICNIC ran ok at this level in her last handicap run @Bordeaux Le Bouscat over 8f just 5 lengths off the winner she now arrives here 4lbs lighter when including Jockey Anaelle Mekouche's 3lb claiming allowance. The Soft Ground will play into this Course & distance winners favour. An interesting little contest for the level but I'm happy to Play each way with this Filly that 'Could' be seen in a better light back in trip & back on familiar turf.

Paul Nolan's 5 year old French Gelding JOYAU DE THAIX Ran well 32 days ago @Fairyhouse in a listed Contest & was certainly not just treading water he was throwing down a challenge in the dying embers but faded (although he plugged on Valiantly) so the drop down in Class & trip (to 19½) looks interesting. This Son of KARAKTAR's penultimate run here @Punchestown (20f) isn't as bad as the result looks as he was certainly in with a shout but pecked on landing three out. The better going would be a slight concern but this Charge is now 2lbs lower thanks to Jockey Shane O'Callaghan's claim. Trainer Paul Nolan has his yard in Fine fettle currently with a 16.67% Win & 41.67% place strike rate the past fortnight. 6 places on offer which gives this French Grey a fighting chance dropping down in Class.

Top claiming Jockey Conor Stone-Walsh sheds 5lbs off this already bottom weighted charge. Yard are in Form & have a great record here in County Kildare the past year. 50/1 for Jim Bolger's 3 year old Gelding SOUND MOVE looks more than fair to me, This Son of BELARDO didn't run badly on Handicap Debut @Gowran Park 5 days ago considering this was after a 152 day break I felt he equitted himself well keeping on & actually finished the final furlong faster than the rest. Trainer has a 37.18% Place strike rate with quick turn arounds & has a decent strike rate with Jockey Declan McDonagh the past year. Upped 1f today could help this charge with 5 places on offer I can't watch this one pass me by.

You get the feeling that much more has been expected of Jessica Harrington's 4 year old Gelding POLAR BEAR there is obviously still time but it's clear on recent form that this son of KODI BEAR does not enjoy the Flat surface @The Curragh but has shown a liking for the undulating nature here @Naas & @Navan performing well in much deeper contests than he faces here (don't get me wrong there are some big sharks in this race). The Forecasted County Kildare rain would be welcomed by this charge who now drops 3lbs back to his Basement mark of 77 now 5lbs below his last winning mark. Visor now replaces cheekpieces in a tactic that has worked for this lad in the past. Jockey Shane Foley has oversaw all of this charges best form & is rebooked (replacing claimer). A tough contest here but a return to a track this charge prefers 3lbs lighter could see this selection in a much better light running off bottom weight.

Considering Nicolas Caullery's 5 year French Gelding TUMBLER had a torrid time here @Paris Longchamp 14 days ago (Was very keen early on then had his heels clipped on the home turn) I thought he equitted himself well to rally on home. This Son of KINGMAN now drops 8lbs & looks much better treated here & should jockey Thomas Trullier have this charge settled now running from a better Stall could have this lad much closer come the business end of this contest.
