Current Gillingham Manager

Mark Bonner was named Head Coach at the Kent club in May 2024. The former Cambridge United boss (2020-2023) had a 38% win-strike rate at the U's and won promotion with them in 2021. Bonner will hope to improve on the Gills' 12th-place finish and ultimately guide the club out of  League 2.

If yet another change occurs at Priestfield Stadium, the bookmakers will have the latest odds for the next Gillingham manager.

There are instances when these odds might not be readily available for certain clubs. This could be because the position has only recently been filled, the club is currently performing exceptionally well, or the club has a strong history of standing by its manager through thick and thin.

Who Could Be The Next Gillingham Manager

A list of the potential candidates should the job become available today based on previous people appearing in the betting odds when the position was vacant last time, to others who have a profile that would fit the club in terms of the last few managers they have had.

Michael Duff

Duff was a manager whose career was on the up after successful spells at Cheltenham Town and Barnsley, however, his move to Championship side Swansea City did not go well, and he was sacked after just 21 games in December 2023.

Steve Bruce

The well-travelled Steve Bruce could be on his way to Kent and his thirteenth managerial position. The 62-year-old has been backed to become the next Gillingham manager.

Scott Lindsey

The former Swindon Town manager and current Crawley Town boss has strong ties to football in Kent, having played for a string of non-league clubs in the county. He is the son of ex-Gills full-back Keith Lindsey.

Gareth Ainsworth

After retiring from playing, Ainsworth transitioned into coaching and management. He became the manager of Wycombe Wanderers in 2012, where, under his guidance, Wycombe achieved promotion to League One in the 2017-2018 season and reached the League One playoffs in subsequent seasons. He left Wycombe in February 2023 to take the job at his former club, QPR, but his time at Loftus Road did not go well, and he was let go in the October.

Andy Woodman

Image: skysportsIn January 2022 it was reported that Gillingham had asked Bromley FC for permission to speak to their manager Andy Woodman. Nothing came of this and Neil Harris was appointed. You would naturally expect that the Gills may try again.

Pete Wild

Image: world football indexThe current Barrow manager, who has primarily managed clubs in the north, has a track record that could be of interest to the Gills. His previous spells at Oldham and Halifax have honed his skills, and in the 2023/24 season, his Barrow side narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing eighth, four places above Gillingham.

Paul Heckingbottom

Image: PA mediaHeckingbottom gained prominence as a manager at Barnsley, where he led the club to promotion to the English Championship via the playoffs in the 2015-2016 season. Since then, he has managed Leeds United, Hibernian and Sheffield United.

Lee Bowyer

Former player Lee Bowyer has been the boss at just two clubs, Charlton Athletic (2018-2021) and Birmingham City (2021-2022). In a surprise move for most football fans, he was appointed national team manager of the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat in September 2023.

Dennis Kutrieb

German-born Kutrieb is currently the manager of National League side Ebbsfleet United. Because of the close proximity of the two clubs, Kutrieb now features in the next Gillingham manager betting.

Leam Richardson

After starting his managerial career at Accrington Stanley, Leam Richardson moved on to Wigan Athletic and then Rotherham United.

Dean Brennan

The Barnet Head Coach, who was appointed in June 2021, has yet to manage a football league club, but we suspect it may not be too long before the Dubliner gets a call from a League Two side.
