Shrews

After 45 years punting I've learned there is one golden rule, and that's never bet your hard earned money when you are tired, angry, stressed, drunk, annoyed, sick, distracted, bored etc. Being in the right frame of mind to effectively consider the chances of EVERY horse in the race is key (not just the one you like).

Good price to be amongst the first 8. Won this in 2021 before T14 in 2022, where he hit an awful 77 in Round 3. T16 last year but comes into the tournament with a win in the Genesis Invitational back in February and should be in contention.

T10 last year and T14 in 2022. Shot 70-72-72-70 in 2023 and 71-73-76-70 in 2022. Won the US Open in 2022 to show he has the nerve to win a major. Needs to find a shot or two a day on those efforts to be in contention but remains in decent form finishing 5th in the Players Championship back in March. Showed he was capable of hitting under 70 when hitting a 67 in the final round back in 2016 to eventually achieve a T7 finish.

It looks a true Group 3 going by the form since of others in the race. First time tongue tie perhaps a sign that the stable understands the horse and that will be due to plenty of work on the gallops.

The old 'outsider of three' addage exists for a reason and that's because horses can show improved form in this size of field where typical tactics that might be employed by a jockey go out the window. Here we can add Heavy ground to the issue and I think Charlie Deutsch may just hunt this one around maybe 10-20 lengths off the pace and hope the other two burn each other or force each other into errors.

It seems a strange training decision not to have run this horse back over this distance when clearly it's best form has been over it. Beat a horse from the Mullins Yard named Recite A Prayer by 6l over this trip, on Heavy ground at Tipperary in May 2021. That horse has gone on to be a 141 chaser. Clearly had his problems since (just 4 runs since and none at all in 2023). But this is his third run back now from a 751 day break and should be reaching optimum fitness. If she retains that ability in conditions that look perfect she could be a handicap blip off just 84
