This horse is 3lb out of the handicap but could well go close here on his 2nd start for a new trainer who does particularly well at this trick and the jockey booking is also eye catching. The horse showed enough on his last run over similar trip and ground to suggest these could be his ideal conditions and he could go close for this stronger jockey. That run was a 4th of 15 when beaten less than 2 lengths off a 5lb higher mark and there's no doubt he's overpriced her on that evidence.

The trainer has hit a hot spot of form with 2 of his last 5 going in (and some others going close) having been 1 from 50 odd before that so this horse is worth a 2nd look especially with the first time booking of Kevin Stott. The 2nd of 12 last time out can be upgraded since the ground would have been too lively for him and he's shown many times before that the softer the ground, the better. He lost by a neck the last time he had similar trip and ground. He races off the same mark here and will have improved from 3yo to 4yo so he has a major chance here.

A look at recent results over c&d on bad ground show that a low draw is definitely favoured here and this horse is drawn in stall 2 with just a 10yo drawn in stall 1 so he has every chance of bagging that crucial early position. The new trainer has given the horse a spin on the AW on his debut for the yard and it could be all systems go now for this horse which is 1 from 2 over this trip and has shown a a liking for soft ground. He runs off his lwest ever mark here and was even tried in Group company after winning on debut so that's a lot of positives for a 20/1 shot.

This horse won well on his only previous visit here and there is a very eye catching jockey booking here. Harry Davies wouldn't be going to Leicester without fancying a few winners since there are more prestigious meetings today and I think he can certainly boot this one home on his favoured soft ground. In fact, whenever you give this horse 7 or 8 furlongs on soft/heavy ground, he nearly always runs a great race, and in some ways, its surprising that we get such a decent e/w price in this 9 runner race. Looks a very solid bet to me.

This horse was caught up by the longer trip and desperate ground here last time out when 2nd off 2nd fav off a 2lb higher mark. We are getting more than double that price now off a lower mark and with the better ground and shorter trip in his favour, so I'm certainly prepared to give him another chance in a race that the trainer/jockey have won twice in the last 5 years. The favourite is Secret Squirrel at 6/1 and this horse has also beaten that one off the same weights as today so that's another positive in favour of the selection.

The rebooking of James Bowen is a big plus for me here and this lightly raced horse looks to be on a good mark. She was a good 2nd at Ludlow behind a horse which has done really well at a higher level since and a look at those beaten horses too shows it was a decent race. It's easy to make a case that the horse could well be at least 7lb better than her current mark and the step up in trip also looks certain to suit. I would expect her to be staying on the best at the end and she's going to be hard to keep out of the places I suspect.

This well bred filly starts handicaps here off a mark of 75 after winning on the AW last time out despite showing signs of greenness. She will have strengthened further in the 4 months off and could well be a cut above these so this topweight rates the bet of the day for me at 15/8. Both of her races thus far have seen plenty of horses coming out and winning since and they provide several clues that the horse is ikely to be better than this mark.

This trainer/jockey combo had been a profitable one to follow in recent times and this horse looks overpriced after getting the rustiness out iof his system on his debut run for the new stable last time out. That was his first run in a year and he's sure to strip fitter today. His only previous run over c&d was an excellent 2nd when beaten less than a length off a 1lb higher mark for a very inexperienced jockey. This looks like a great opportunity with a stronger jockey on board and he looks good e/w value.

It would have been a profitable system backing Harry Derham's lightly raced horses this season since he really does have them fit and raring to go in these handicaps. Her win at Market Rasen has seen several of those beaten horses run well (and win) since off marks higher than Bellsa Civena races off here and she looks on a very decent mark to me. The same jockey from that win is rebooked again after 2 runs without him which is another clue in itself that the horse could go close.

This horse makes his handicap debut here off a mark of 60 for a trainer that does well when he send his horses handicapping. The horse has shown early speed in his short career and that will be an advantage from his high draw here which is often favoured for those horses that get a fasr start in bad ground at the track. Catterick is one of the courses where the trainer performs best at and is would be no surprise to see him improve for the switch to handicapping here.

Jamie Spencer isn't everyones cup of tea, but the trainers strike rate shoots up when he books him and Spencer is choosing his rides more selectively these days. The horse is unexposed and looks certain to appreciate this step up in trip on the evidence we have seen thus far. The Churchill gelding gets his first run on turf here on handicap debut and could well step up on previous efforts here.

Auric is friendless in the market but looks the most obvious winner to me after showing a great attitude to win on the AW last time out. The well bred colt makes his turf debut here on his third run and the ground is riding fast judging by the time of the earlier races, which should certainly suit on breeding. Oisin Murphy retains the ride and he's just the man for this horses hold up tactics. Hopefully he'll be nudging this one ahead late on.

This unexposed horse looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip and the trainer could well have acquired a good one here from the Roger Varian yard. The new trainer often improves horses, and the run last time out gave enough strong clues that the horse could well be worth following when tackling a longer trip. I like the jockey booking too and this horse looks the most likely one in the field to be ahead of their current mark.

Smalleytime had been in freefall down the handicap until winning on the AW last time out. He's only been put up 3lb for this win and is still 19lb lower than the mark he started off in handicaps. The trainer is in red hot form too and even the jockey has been upgraded so there's a lot to like about his chances. A look at the breeding too also boost confidence since the sires progeny are much better on soft/heavy ground.

6 furlongs on soft ground is clearly this horses forte and he gets the first time booking of Cieren Fallon here which is interesting since he has a very good record at this course. He's slipped to his lowest mark now since when making his handicap debut and winning a strong nursery which was also over a heavy ground 5 furlongs. That form has been strongly franked since and he should go close with his ideal conditions here.

The trainer is going well at the moment and he does well with getting his races running off decent marks. This one makes her handicap debut here off 62 and the run on soft when 5th of 14 gives a few clues that she could be well in here since she was close up to horses racing in excess of 10lb above the mark she races off here. The horse is also well bred and has a decent draw so we might see the horse step up for the switch to handicaps here.

The last time this horse had a race over 5 furlongs on soft ground was a dead heated winner off a 4lb higher mark for an inexperienced jockey where the 2nd has since won off a 3lb higher mark. There's one of the best around now booked in this Apprentice race where the horse once again gets his conditions for the first time since that effort. The falling handicap mark is an obvious plus and he looks on a very winnable mark now.

I'm a little baffled by the price on this one. The trainer is in form, he is using his stable jockey (which is crucial), and the horse has shown that he had put in some of his best efforts when fresh. as is the case here. He was a head 2nd over similarly soft ground at Chester off the same mark and many horses from that race have franked the form in one way or another. There's certainly enough evidence to suggest that he shouldn't be anywhere near a 25/1 outsider.

The price on this one is going quickly which is no surprise given how well he won on his only previous run over c&d He's well drawn and the visor is back on again now. The horse also has a history of coming on for a run and he should be primed and raring to go now. The ground when he won here was even a little quicker than he likes to he has to have a major chance on this slightly softer ground which he prefers.

It used to be that 7yos were too young to win a National of any type but that trend is changing (3 have won this in the last 11 years) and this horses best run was when trying the longest trip he has tried this far on soft ground. He showed great character to win that race where the front 2 pulled well clear and there's no way he should be as big as 40/1 to go in again off this 5lb higher mark. The ground was too quick for him last time out and he's been given a break since then but the wind op prior to that soft ground win looks to have improved the horse. The trainer has a terrific 25% strike rate with his chasers and also a 25% strike rate when booking this jockey so there's a lot of positives for such a big outsider.

The Haggas/Marquand combo had a nice winner at the meeting on Friday and this unexposed 4yo could well be the answer here. The owners of this one have some really strong horses and they have a terrific record with those trainer by Haggas. The horses only run on softish ground was when travelling well and cruising to an easy win so he should be right at home on this slightly softer ground I'd suggest. A mark of 88 is almost certainly a lenient one since this horse could potentially be much better than that. Would be no surprise to see him go off much shorter than the current 11/1.

This horse is 2 from 2 and the trainer has his horses fit enough even after a break at the moment. The time of that latest win and the subsequent races of some of those beaten horses point to this horse being capable of mixing in this company and despite having something to find on official figures, there's only been 2 races in which to assess the horse, and she's undoubtedly the surprise package in this race. Certainly should be a single figure price I'd say.

The owners have one other horse with this small stable which won at the start of the month meaning the trainer has had 2 winners from just 3 runners in April and this unexposed one off 47 at the bottom of the handicap could well outun her odds of 40/1 here. If you watch the replay of this horses only run here when staying on into third (also at 40/1) , it looks for all the world like this extra half mile is exactly what she needs. The trainer has persisted with running her at around a mile since that effort but she finally gets the step up in trip now having dropped 11lb since that 3rd place finish here. The trainer has also booked an excellent jockey in this Apprentice race and there's a lot to like about this 40/1 shot now that she'll not get outpaced like she has been over the shorter trips.

This horses last run in a 6 furlong sprint on soft ground resulted in a win at Goodwood off a 4lb lower mark as a 4yo. Those Goodwood handicaps are tricky to win at the best of time and I can see him going very close off this mark with conditions once again in his favour. That was after a break, just as he gets here and the Hannon stable is starting to crank into gear now so I can see this one going very close.

Bluegrass hacked up in a maiden hurdle last time out when supported into odds on and it's fairly easy to suggest that he's ahead of the handicapper here having been brought along quietly by a yard that are expert at lining their horses up on decent marks. Now that he's shown what he's capable of, there could be an awful lot more to come and I expected him to be much shorter than this to be honest.

French trainer has a terrific record when bringing his horse to Newmarket and this one has to be worth a second look since they are usually better than handicapper horses. She beat a couple of very well fancied horses in France last time out and is well worth taking a chance with here. The horse has won both her races when racing after a break and she will no doubt be fit enough here with the trainer making the effort to get her over from France.

This horse is making his debut for a trainer who is really hot at the moment and has 4 wins from his last 7 runners when booking this jockey which suggests he has the horse ready and raring to go. The horse has only encountered softish ground once (when placed at big price) but a look at the breeding shows the sires progeny has a good record on heavy ground. The horse even raced in Listed and Group company for his previous trainer so this lowest evert handicap mark of 80 could well be exploited if as expected, the new trainer has improved the horse.

I'm a little baffled by the price of this one to say the least. He is fit after winning on the AW last time out, has a favoured high draw, and has a piece of form when 2nd on turf as a 2yo which gives him a serious chance here. That form has been franked in no uncertain terms since and he's likely to be better than an 81 handicapper if that form is taken literally. The first has since hacked up off 4lb higher mark than Cajetan races off here (he only beat Cajetan a nose too). The third has won off a 5lb higher mark and the 4th has won since too. Great first time jockey booking too and this horse should be much shorter in my opinion.

The owner has a 24% strike rate for his horses with the powerful Archie Watson stable and whenever Hollie Doyle is booked, that record improves further. The horse has been campaigned with handicaps in mind, but her opening run when racing too keenly provides more than enough clues that she's better than a 60 rated handicapper. Breeding would also back up that theory and she could go very close and step up on previous efforts in her first handicap.

The horse that this one beat in a novice hurdle last time out has since won well off a 1lb lower mark than Moor Dorange races off here and that was his first run for the yard to it certainly looks like Fergal O'Brien has worked his magic. He has 3 in the race and this is the first string which is making his handicap debut. Clearly that run last time out would strongly suggest he's capable of winning off this mark and he's even been placed over c&d for his previous trainer on ground that would've been too soft so he looks to have a really solid chance here.

I think the favourite Royal Rhyme is better on slower ground than this and Ottoman Fleet looks great value at 7/2 to follow up his win in this race last year. He's wintered in Dubai and his trainer's horses are flying at the moment. He also has the best record of all these horses in this class of race and conditions are ideal. He loves it here too with 3 wins and a second from 4 runs at the course and I don't see him getting any bigger than 7/2 for sure.

This unexposed horse near the bottom of the handicap could be the answer here especially since I think the step up in trip is a huge positive. He's a strong traveller and looks for all the world like he needs this 2 and a half mile trip. There are several horses that have finished in and around this one that have since performed creditably off higher marks than Doyen Quest races off here.

Richard Hannon has booked his very talented 3lb claimer on this one who actually has a better strike rate for the stable now than his main jockey (Sean Levey). His debut run was a very promising effort when third and beaten just over a length. Crucially that effort gives him more of a chance than his winning effort on the AW last time out since the first 2 have won a Group 2 and a Group 3 between them and are rated 10lb and more above Wallop's handicap mark here. Trip and ground are similar too and the jockey's claim is certainly useful so despite the weakness in the early market, this horse ticks a lot of boxes I feel.

The trainer couldn't be in better form, and this horse has been gelded since last season. His runs on decent ground all have collateral form which is strong enough to suggest he's on a winnable mark of 85. There's plenty of evidence that show him to be in and around (or beating) 90-95 rated horses and he'll no doubt have physically improved since last year so it seems fairly likely that he should arguably be a shorter price here.

This is one of the few in the field to have beaten a genuine 100 rated horse and that makes him hugely appealing here in a handicap off a mark of just 89. The trainer had been fairly quiet but there are signs that things are about to take off and he's perennially one to follow in these early season races. The horse was placed in a Group 3 here when beaten just over a length (rated 105) so his chances are there for all to see and after a couple of starts for his new stable last year, it could be all systems go now.

The trainers runners are going really well at the moment, including his seasonal debutantes so hopefully this one will be fit and raring to go. She was only beaten a short head on seasonal debut last year and there is a strong jockey booking who does well for the stable. Her last win on turf was an easy one and has seen the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all come out and win since to frank that form.

This has to be the best bet of the day for me at 11/4 with the horse guaranteed to stay this trip (unlike many I suspect) and the ground will be ideal too. The horse has improved for the application of cheekpieces and the key piece of form is his win just 2 starts ago. The horse showed a great attitude when winning the race with the front 2 pulling well clear. Crucially the horse in 2nd has since won off a 13lb higher mark, and Townhill only has to defy a 5lb rise here so that looks well within his scope.

Some of the previous winners of the Huntingdon race which this one won easily last time out on debut for the stable have been really recent horse (even 130+ winners) so you'd have to give this horse every chance here given how easy he won and how well supported he was too. The stable do really well with these types and unlike some of the perceived "bigger stables", her runners don't get overbet. If this was trained my one of the bigger yards, it would arguably be half the price. The 9/1 looks terrific value.

P2P is notoriously hard to evaluate but this horses win in a PTP gives serious clues that he could be well in here off a mark of 95. That PTP win was easy and a couple of those well beaten horses have raced in handicaps since off marks of 111 and 107. The horse makes his handicap debut here and the in form trainer does well at this course so it would be no surprise if the horse went close off this mark after gaining course experience when racing here last time out.

Vanillier was given too much to do by the jockey last year when staying on into 2nd but at least he proved he has the required stamina and he gets a 7lb swing with the winner Corach Rambler. Partly the reason for this one racing off a nice weight here, is that his whole season has been campaigned around this race and clearly all the connections have had redemption in mind after that terrific effort last year. He's still only a 9yo too so arguably could have given the 10yo Corach Rambler plenty to think about anyway and at the prices, he has to be the main bet.

This lightly raced horse has raced on soft/heavy ground in his short career and the trainer is still working out his best trip. It seems like an obvious thing to do to drop him back in trip after finding it too far last time out, and the cheekpieces go on now in just his 2nd handicap to squeeze out further improvement. He's well bred and should go close.

If you look at this horses last 10 runs on a flat track, it reads 212112 6121. There's every chance therefore that this first visit to Aintree could bring out the best in him . He's also won in this class before, unlike some of his rivals here and has a progressive looking profile. The trainer has kept faith in the 3lb conditional who has been riding him so well and the horse has been kept fresher than many of these.

This was the jockey's pick of his Dads pair when they chased home Ballyburn last time out and despite this one being much more fancied, he finished behind his 66/1 stablemate but there's a strong suspicion that the track might not have suited. A return to a flat track could be what he needs and in any event, he only has 2lb to find of official ratings against the mare Brighterdaysahead which is odds on. Clearly this race is more open than that and at 4/1, this one looks the clear value to me.

Last years winner is 2 from 2 here now with both successes being very impressive. She has more on her plate now but course form counts for a lot here and she doesn't have many miles at all on the clock for an 8yo so is still likely to be progressive. The shrewd trainer has managed to get the horse here on her lowest mark in 4 runs and the stable jockey is back in the saddle who has an excellent record on the horse.

There's some interesting form lines here which give this horse a huge chance off this mark of 75 when sent off a well supported favourite in his last race. The horse is really well bred and that win was from a horse back in third that has since gone down by just a length in a Group 3 when rated 103. The trainer has her stable flying at the moment and their main jockey is booked, the form is there for all to see and I'd expect him to be quite a bit shorter than 8/1 at the off.

Considering that David Pipe has a better strike rate on the flat than he has over NH in the last year means that his flat horses are worth a 2nd look. The fact that he's booked a decent jockey and is putting the blinkers on the horse for the first time also suggests he might be lining this one up for an improved performance here. This is the horses first run for the stable which was rated as high as 82 for his previous trainer so the fact he's down to just 61 suggests he has to be worth a little interest at a generous looking price.

This Irish raider could be the real fly in the ointment here is we take the horses latest run on face value. He was giving horses of a higher calibre than these a real scare before coming down and it's hard to know what the outcome would have been but there's certainly enough evidence to suggest that he could well be on a decent mark here. The market support suggests as much and a big run looks on the cards.

Horses as high in the handicap as this one don't often win this race but then again, not many of them were rated as high a hurdler as this one and he's had a couple of places since in very big field chases so could well be at home here. There's also been clues that he needs a flat track to show his best and the biggest factor of all could be the switch in jockey which is a major plus in my opinion. Should go close with the 33/1 outsider Killer Kane at the other end of the handicap, perhaps another option if there is to be a surprise.

Last years winner came here last year off the back of a defeat at Ascot when bypassing Cheltenham and has been given exactly the same prep here except this year he won his race at Ascot in impressive style. The history of this race is littered by horses that win this race back to back and having shown himself to be as good as ever in that Ascot race last time out, you'd have to say that 10/3 is more than generous with questions marks against his 2 main market rivals too.

This unexposed 6yo and c&d winner from the Nicholls stable could well be the answer here at a generous looking 10/1. He also gets the first time hood and this French bred will certainly appreciate this deep ground. He bypassed some of the bigger meetings and arrives here fresher than most and there's clearly some form lines which suggest he's more than capable of winning off this mark.
