Assertively sets the standard on RPRs but this ground will be very different to what he encountered on debut at Ripon and he has a 7lb penalty to shoulder. Rejeteriat jumped ok on debut at Southwell and was up there with the pace and disputing the lead 2f out. He was quickly passed but kept on through the final furlong. He will be better for the run and with a good draw in stall 2, can make his experience count and jump out to be prominent from the outset. His action suggests he should be fine on this sound surface and the stiffer track should suit. The yard have a very useful strike rate of 2-8 (4 x 2nds) in the past 5 years and at around 9/2, he rates the Nap of the day.

Having tipped her last time out, I’m loathed to desert City Saint despite the fact that she will probably improve further and hold better chances once handicapping. As I wrote for her last run, her mother improved her RPR by 39lb through her first 3 runs and this is City Saint’s 3rd outing. She improved by 13lb from 1st to 2nd run so with further improvement likely, she is not without a chance on adjusted RPRs if she finds similar improvement again. Her mother won over 2m and she is likely to be one for handicaps down the line and probably over further. However, at around 16/1, she is worth a small each way interest to finish in the first 2.

Zucayan won this last year and is taking a similar prep this season. Last season, he re-appeared last season after a 310 day break before landing this after just 3lb less. Ran only once more last year finishing well down the field off a 4lb higher mark. Not seen again until 4 weeks ago when he made a promising re-appearance over 19.5f at Hereford. Still in contention before he weakened before the final flight. His only other win also came in May (2022) and he looks to have been primed for this again. He is the Nap of the day.

Remarquee sets the standard here on RPRs but it is her first run since last July and I’m not sure that a drop back to 7f will be in her favour. Great Generation represents the classic generation and has been nicely progressive in her 4 runs to date. In hindsight, she faced a tough task on re-appearance where she finished 4th, about 2l behind the 3rd and 4th in the 1000 Guineas. That was on desperate ground and she should be better suited by today’s sound surface. She is reported to have come out of the race well and has been working well. At around 11/4, she is fancied to upset the favourite and rates the Nap of the day.

He has been a tough horse to train for various reasons but he comes here after a decent run last time on ground possibly softer than ideal. That was after a 76 day break and he drops another 1lb here. The strong gallop should suit him and he should be staying on strongly from the last. At around 20/1, he rates a sporting each way bet.

Israr sets the standard on RPRs and unlike his main rival, comes here fit after 2 runs so far this year. He may have gone to the front too soon at Sandown and was run down in the final furlong. He is sure to go close. However, Passenger promised much last season and after looking unlucky in running in the Dante at York, he went of just 8/1 for last year’s Derby. It may prove that the 12F stretched his stamina and his only run after that was when scoring in a Group 3 over 10f at Windsor. He has 2 Group 1 entries in the summer and they are both over 10f so it seems he is expected to go down that route. She is sure to come on for the run and will know more today. The form has been franked with the 4th winning the Lily Agnes at Chester 2 days back. He is sure to come on for the run and sets the standard here. He doesn’t hold any Derby entries but wouldn’t need to be up to that level to score here. Mr Hampstead is the obvious danger. He made rapid headway turning for home at Newcastle but could only stay on at the same pace in the last 2 furlongs. He followed up with a similar RPR on re-appearance at Newbury, again keeping on well through the final furlong to finish 4th. Some disappointing sorts with points to prove for me. Point Lonsdale just about sets the standard but for me, he has yet to prove he stays 12f never mind 13.5f. Also, Ryan Moore was quoted to say he felt he didn’t handle the track in last year’s Huxley. Arrest was well held on re-appearance and not for the first time, he raced wide of the field. Also, he has shown his best form on soft ground which he will not get today. I think it is worth siding with Deauville Legend who will relish the ground which will be drying throughout the day. He has not been seen for 257 days but started last season after a 235day break when he was less than 3l behind Pyledriver in the Group 2 Hardwicke when not getting a clear run. He now sports blinkers after 1 run in cheekpieces and he is proven at the trip. His trainer has said he hopes he now has him back to the form he showed as a 3yo and if he has, he should resume his winning ways. At around 7/2, he is the Nap of the day.

This extra furlong should be within reach for him. The ground will be fine and again, he should be able to race fairly prominently and the track should suit this prominent racer. Grosvenor Square sets the standard on RPRs but he comes here without a prep run and only 4 of the last 21 winners came here without a prep run. Agenda may look the 2nd string but he won really nicely at Dundalk on re-appearance, striding out well through the final furlong. That was an impressive performance in light of the fact he is not actually 3 years old until 31st of this month! He won going away and while his full brother Subzero didn’t race beyond 10f, he only raced 4 times and was staying on nicely at the end of that last run. Agenda has a lovely long stride and drawn in stall 3, he should be able to jump and get into his stride. The further they went at Dundalk, the better he looked so this trip should be ideal. At around 6/1, he is fancied to upset his better fancied stable companion and looks the value bet.

Seaward created a good impression when scoring on her 2nd run at Ascot last September. She jumped out and made all, striding out nicely on the good ground. She has a fluent fast action so is likely to be best on a sound surface. She looked as if she was going to be swallowed up when challenged by Climate Action over 1f out but she showed a willing attitude and kept on well to score. She was then pitched in to the Group 1 Fillies Mile at Newmarket where she found the heavy ground totally against her, constantly changing her legs. To her credit she was still there 2f out before the ground got too much for her and she dropped tamely away. That is by far the best race on offer from today’s runners. She looks to have a potentially generous opening handicap mark and considering that she was contesting Class 2 and 3 handicaps on the Flat last summer, this should be her easiest task to date. In addition, her latest run was during the Henderson ‘lean’ spell, and they are in better form now. She sets the standard on form and could prove to be on a very generous mark. The 2 who set that standard on form, Asian Start and Roaring Home, both finished a similar distance behind the Harry Fry trained Anno Power in NHFs about 2 months apart so there should be little between those 2. City Of Troy is a worthy favourite but favourites don’t have a great recent record in this race. Richard Hannon is very keen on the chances of Rosallion and he is sure to give a good account. However, being by top sprinter Blue Point, whose progeny are mainly about speed, I’m not convinced he will be suited by a stiff 8f. The one for me is Iberian. We know that Rosallion was beaten by the softer ground when behind Iberian at Doncaster but Iberian is said to be unsuited by soft ground also. If his last run ahs taken the freshness out of him then with the yard in such good form, he looks the value bet at around 11/4.

Indian Creak comes here having dropped back to his last winning mark of 87. He showed good speed to lead up the centre of the course on re-appearance at Newbury before being headed over 1f out and weakening quickly in the final furlong though he was not given a hard time once his chance had gone. He will come on for the run. He has been dropped 2lb for that run and today has regular rider Rose Dawes back on board claiming a further 5lb off his back. Last season he won on his 2nd run on soft ground at Windsor making all to score by 3.5l. He was 2nd twice from 2 runs in May the year before and 1-1 in May the season before that so he is clearly a Spring horse. He should be able to dictate fractions from his low draw and could take some pegging back. The yard is bang in form with 6-24 in the past 14 days including their last 2 runners. At around 18/1, he looks way overpriced and is a solid each way Nap of the day.

Zaphea is turned out again just 4 days after her seasonal re-appearance where she raced very keenly, leading until inside the final furlong when her exertions took their toll. That should have taken the freshness out of her and with Mulrennan retaining the ride, he will know her better today. With the rail to race against, she can jump out and make all. Hopefully, she will settle better today and if she does can make every post a winning post. At around 4/1, she is a sound each way bet.

Circus Lion has been all the rage in the early exchanges this morning and looks sure to give a good account. However, this is his first run since last September and he did hang left throughout on his 2nd run last year so I wouldn’t want to be on at a short price and he does have a few lbs to find. The one for me is Northerner who ran with promise on debut last year despite an awful run throughout. She was slowly into stride and was soon faced with a bend where she dropped to the back of the field. One by one she had to be switched around every runner before staying on well to the line without being knocked about. She finished behind Obligatory on re-appearance but again had to be switched over 1f out by which time the winner had flown. She has a quick action so she will better suited to today’s sound surface. She gets weight from her 2 main market rivals and despite being on the drift looks overpriced at around 6/1 and warrants each way support to finish in the first 2.

Teahupoo sets the standard and is unbeaten in 2 this season. However, he has been unplaced in both runs at the track and though not beaten far in this last year when 4th, he was behind 2 of today’s rivals. At the price, I have to look elsewhere. This is Sire Du Berlais’ time of year and while he does have a little bit to find, at around 8/1, he rates a sporting each way bet. Asterion Forlonge should also go well at each way odds.

Coko Beach is the class act and clearly sets the standard here. However, he has yet to win at this trip though his 3 attempts have been in the Grand National. He has run in that race for the last 3 years and he usually re-appears at Limerick the following October. It is only 19 days since he ran at Aintree so at the odds I would rather look elsewhere. Enda Bolger has won this 14 times in the past so Birchdale is respected though he has yet to prove he stays this far. This is often won by a veteran with a 14yo and 15yo winning in the past 10 years. Vital Island won this last year and comes here relatively fresh. He has plenty of experience of this track and his jockey knows him. At around 20/1, he rates a sporting each way bet.

An extremely modest and disappointing bunch but the one that jumps out is Vellner. His trainer has only ever sent two horses to Ayr, one won & the other was 2nd. He showed some decent form in his earlier days in Ireland before joining his current yard. He has tried a variety of distance in his last 6 runs from 8f to 12f but his best recent run was 2 starts back over 8f at Kempton when a 4l 5th. Last time over 10f on soft ground at Doncaster he weakened out of it in the final 2f so a return to 8f should suit. With only 6 runners and an experienced rider back on board, he should be able to sit where he wants and at around 9/2 in such a poor race, is a sporting bet.

This looks an ideal opportunity for Sycamore Gap to finally get off the mark. This ex-Godolphin inmate cost 200,000 guineas as a yearling although he didn’t see the track for them. He was backed in to favourite on course debut in a 2m NHF on turf at Newcastle where he travelled strongly until 3f out so we know the ground is fine. Has since had 5 runs on the AW with the 2nd of which he was noted making good late headway through the final furlong to be nearest at the finish over 8f. Eventually upped to 9.5f at Wolves last time, he again travelled strongly out the back in a race run at a crawl so was never going to land a blow on top of which he was very weak in the market, 9/1 from 9/2. That was his handicap debut and he has been dropped 1lb for that. Hollie now takes the mount and with a likely decent pace on here and a small field, she should be able to get a clear run and is likely to be staying on strongly at the finish. At around 10/3, he is the Nap of the day.

William Munny

Daily Racing

Willie Mullins always plays a strong hand in this but when Barry Connell tells you he has the best bumper horse in Ireland, you take notice! William Munny travelled on the bit last time out at Naas but showed an excellent turn of foot when asked to win his race. He has been freshened up with a 2 month break since then and this was always his target. Remembering how much his trainer talked up Our Conor back inn 2013, at around 4/1, he looks excellent value.

Stately Home

Daily Racing

Races over this CD favour low drawn runners and preferably front runners. The one to take the eye is Shaun Lycett’s Stately Home who is nicely drawn in stall 2. He can race with the pace and with Garden Oasis making his seasonal re-appearance, Clifford Lee should be able to jump out and get to the inside rail. Lee comes here for only 2 rides and is in a rich vein of form with a 27% strike rate in the past 14 days. Stately Home has been kept busy on the AW this Winter before a fair 4th at Windsor 2 weeks ago. He has won on his only visit to the track (CD) and at around 3/1, is fancied to make virtually all the running.

Woolhampton sets the standard on RPRs and that is before the 7lb claim of Oliver Searle who knows her well. She was an eyecatcher on re-appearance when given too much to do over 6f at Wolverhampton from her wide draw, staying on well to be nearest at the finish. In addition, her usual blinkers were left off last time but are back on today. She has run 3 times over CD and has yet to be out of the first 3. She should get an even pace to aim at and drawn against the stand rail, she should be staying on strongly at the finish. At around 11/4 she is the Nap of the day.

Answer To Kayf

Daily Racing

Despite being an 8yo, Answer To Kayf has only had 7 races under Rules. This race was named as his target immediately after landing an Incentive race for this series at Naas in February. He recorded his best RPR last time out when 4th in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham and has been kept fresh for this since then. He goes very well for today’s rider who also takes off a valuable 7lb making him clear top rated on RPRs. His best form has been on much softer ground but if he acts on this slightly better surface, he looks overpriced at around 11/4.

Jasour could do with the rain staying away as he is definitely better on a sound surface. That said, it is described as good to soft on the straight course with just the final furlong softening up. He was impressive when landing the Group 2 July Stakes at HQ last summer, quickening up from last place to win going away. Jim Crowley, who rode him, said that holding him up had been the making of him. He then was well beaten in 2 Group 1s in August and September. The first, he made the running on very soft ground at Deauville then pulled far too hard in the Middle Park so he had nothing left at the finish and he was allowed to come home in his own time. There should be a good pace on here which should allow him to settle and Jim Crowley is back on for the first time since his Newmarket win last July. Provided he doesn’t encounter traffic problems, he can be produced late to take this on the way the Commonwealth Cup back here at the Royal meeting. At around 12/1, he looks overpriced and is a sporting each way bet.
