Goonhilly represents Dan Skelton who has done well this season in valuable Saturday handicap hurdles. Beaten at odds-on in two maiden hurdles in February and March, he may be better judged on his sixth placing of 16 in the Imperial Cup over today's course and distance (lost a shoe). Three pounds lower in the weights and with Tristan Durrell claiming another three pounds, he can get in the places again today in this novices event.

A novice hurdle with just the eight runners. Uncle Mac can run into the places based on his third placing at Hereford last time. He led before weakening late over 19.5 furlongs. A similar sharp, flat, right-handed course today and the drop in distance to two miles can suit. Uncle Max is half-brother to a winning jumper out of a dam who was narrowly beaten in a Group 3 flat race. His sire Maxios is, this season, operating at a winners to runners ratio of 41%.

A severe test of stamina in the conditions and Prince Des Fichaux looks to have the attributes to reach the places in this nine runner handicap. He has form in the book in a better race than this one when beaten a neck in a gruelling, heavy ground renewal of the Eider Chase in February. That was a good effort from four pounds out of the handicap. Likely to race prominently on this sharper track, Prince Des Fichaux should be staying on at the finish here.

Withabitofluck makes his racecourse debut. His trainer Henry De Bromhead is operating at a 30% winners to runners ratio in National Hunt Flat races this season. He saddled a treble yesterday. Withabitofluck is from a family which has produced plenty of useful winners. He is brother to three winners, two of whom scored in National Hunt Flat races including first time out. The dam also won in this sphere as well as over 12 furlongs on the flat. Jockey Mr J L Gleeson has a decent record in these events and looks worth his five pounds allowance. Withabitofluk is given an each way chance here with just the eight runners.

Charles St has finished in the first three places in seven of his ten outings over hurdles. He has always completed the course but his twelve career second placings may mean this sometime tail-flasher looks after himself. Charles St takes a big step up in distance but Ludlow is a fast track and stamina for the three miles trip may not count for much on today's forecast good going. The horse goes well on sharp right-handed tracks (career best at Market Rasen). Cheekpieces are back on. Connor Brace replaces a useful winning amateur rider which is an interesting booking.

An ordinary claiming race which won't take much winning so I will take on the forecast odds-on favourite. Aviano certainly won't be found wanting for stamina here as he has won over further than today's distance. Generally consistent these days, he has finished in the first four places in all but one of his last eight races. Aviano's record at Hawthorne is 4242 and can reach the places for his new stable.

The useful dam won on both of her first two outings including in the April of her three year old season (seasonal debut) and went well on soft ground. The Appleby/Buick combination are in their usual good form.

Castle Rushen's record at Ayr is 1211. His best performances have been on a soft surface. Yet to score over further than 19.5 furlongs, Castle Rushen has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and should be suited by today's long distance race (has only twice tried distances in excess of three miles). He has been rated 135 over hurdles but has dropped 12 pounds in the ratings and has been given a chance by the handicapper. Brian Hughes has been in the saddle for all his victories and regains the ride.

Her sire, Kodiac, is known as one of the best sources of speed around so today's 5 furlongs trip would seem to be ideal. Kodiac placed at Newmarket on his racecourse debut and later won a sprint on this track. He was best on today's forecast good going. Kodi Banphrionsa is half-sister to J A Stack's Back To Brussels who landed a Navan maiden on his racecourse debut, in April, at the age of two. Kodi Banphrionsa is sister to K Club who also got off the mark at the first time of asking in the May of her two year old season, winning a 5 furlongs sprint on fast ground. With a pedigree of early types it brings hope that Kodi Banphrionsa can make the frame at an each way price.

Coeur Serein returns from a break having twice won in these circumstances. With all his victories recorded between mid February and mid May it would seem to be his time of year. Coeur Serein may have been waiting for the ground to turn in his favour as his last two successes were on good going. He has form in marathon chases having placed a close fifth in a valuable 39 furlongs Punchestown event in April last year. Now 18 pounds lower than his last winning mark, Coeur Serein can get in the mix at decent odds.
